I am currently looking for opportunities to do some field research about my topic. I am having different, sometimes contradictory opinions from the people I happen to communicate with, and I need to understand things from a real-life perspective.
I am mostly interested in the preservation of endemic species and knowledge.
If you represent or know an organization that deals with such issues, please contact me so that we can first arrange an interview, and maybe initiate a collaboration.

During the “grenelle de l’environnement” which was hold last week in France, french government announced they would consider the issue of P2P seed sharing, declaring that famers dependence on seed suppliers shouldn’t be too compelling. That’s a good point. Many people are looking forward to see how this decision will be applied.

It’s been one month that indigenous people have rights on their own.
The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was indeed adopted by the United Nations General Assembly during its 61st session at UN Headquarters in New York City on 13 September 2007. While as a General Assembly Declaration it is not a legally binding instrument under international law, according to an UN press release, it does “represent the dynamic development of international legal norms and it reflects the commitment of the UN’s member states to move in certain directions”; the UN describes it as setting “an important standard for the treatment of indigenous peoples that will undoubtedly be a significant tool towards eliminating human rights violations against the planet’s 370 million indigenous people and assisting them in combating discrimination and marginalisation.”

South Africa Bushmen recently won the trial that opposed them to phytopharma, regarding their share of the future, expected to be juicy, profit from the exploitation of Hoodia Gordonii. This plant, known to have appetite-curbing virtues, has indeed been used by the bushmen since ages, and they are the ones who led to the discovery that will make the fight against actual obesity pandemic a more realistic ambition. This is still a fresh new to me, I’ll keep investigating and post more details about this success later on.
